Our Beliefs

We believe in the divine inspiration and authority of the Holy Scriptures (the Bible), as written in the original languages, Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.

We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe Jesus Christ is both God and the Son of God. That he pre-existed with the Father, was born of a virgin in his coming to earth, that he lived a sinless life, worked miracles, died on the cross for the sin of the world, rose from the dead, ascended to heaven, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father.

We believe we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe his directive to be born again of water and the Spirit; that is, to repent of our sins, to be baptised in water in the name of Jesus and to receive the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues and that all the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to believers today.

We believe in prayer for the sick and healing by the power of God.

We believe the local church is the primary expression of God’s kingdom in our world.

We believe the Bible identifies modern nations and gives signs of the times we now live in, heralding the imminent return of Jesus Christ.

Jesus commanded his followers (the church) to go into all the world and make disciples, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that whoever believes in him and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Baptism in the Scriptures was by full immersion in water and was performed on anyone who was old enough to believe in Jesus for themselves. There are no examples of infants being baptised.

Baptism represents the death and burial of our old, sinful life, followed by resurrection into a new life. In Romans chapter 6, we read; “We are buried with him by baptism … that like as Christ was raised from the dead … even so we also should walk in newness of life.”, and that If we die in baptism, “we shall also be in the likeness of his resurrection.”

The resurrection into a new life is accomplished through the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11). The pattern seen at Jesus’ baptism, and at his death, must be fulfilled in us. We die with him in baptism, and are resurrected into new life by the receiving of his Holy Spirit.

In John chapter 3, Jesus spoke about the necessity of being born again in order to enter the kingdom of God. To be more specific, he said that we must be born of water and the Spirit. This directive is fulfilled in our lives by water baptism and the receiving of his Holy Spirit.

In the New Testament, the experience of receiving the Holy Spirit completely changed the lives of those who accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit, they boldly preached the resurrection of Jesus. Their preaching was accompanied by manifestations of the Holy Spirit’s power and miracles of healing and the casting out of demonic spirits were very common. These signs and wonders were in complete accord with Jesus’ final promise before he ascended to heaven in Acts chapter 1; “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you…”  This experience is called the baptism, infilling, or receiving of the Holy Spirit, which Jesus promised to all (John 7:37-39 and Matthew 3:11).

Through the Holy Spirit, we experience the person, or nature of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3:16-21 and John 16:13-14). The Holy Spirit is essential for every believer and he dwells within them (Romans 8:9, 1 John 3:23-24 and 4:12-13). Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10).

One of the consistent themes throughout the Bible is God’s desire and power to heal the sick.

When bringing the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, God revealed himself to them as Jehovah Rapha, which means ‘The Lord Who Heals’ (Exodus 15:26). By his power, when the Israelites left Egypt, there was not one sick person among them. Elsewhere in the Old Testament, other miraculous healings occurred when people put their trust in God.

With the commencement of Jesus’ public ministry in the New Testament, multitudes of people were healed of all manner of sicknesses and disabilities. Healing was a major component of the ‘good news’ that Jesus proclaimed. In fact, he promised that healing would continue to accompany the preaching of the gospel, even after his return to heaven.

This promise proved to be true, as we read about the spread of the gospel and growth of the Christian Church in the book of Acts. Divine healings were consistently manifested in the church and in public, as believers stepped out in faith and preached the gospel.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His desire to heal people is undiminished, as is his promise that believers today can heal the sick through faith in his name (Mark 16:17-18).
